Mental Health Services at the Center for Connection

At the Center for Connection, we take great care in listening to your concerns and the reasons that sparked you to take the incredibly brave first step of reaching out for help. Whether that help is for yourself, your child, or your relationship, we know what enormous trust you are sharing with us when you walk through our doors.  It’s an honor to walk with you through this journey of change and healing.

The relationship between client and therapist is the foundation for treatment at the CFC. Research has shown that a strong relationship, or therapeutic alliance, is one of the best predictors of successful therapy. Our team of empathic and caring psychotherapists is here for you. We come with various backgrounds and experiences, but we’re connected by the commitment to our therapeutic approach focused on safety, caring, and trust. The scientific lens that informs our work is interpersonal neurobiology, an exciting field of research and study about the neuroscience of change and of healthy, connected relationships. We know that connected relationships matter and play a role in how our brains and lives change, so that’s where we start. Clients will be matched to a therapist based on areas of specialty, relational fit, and availability, unless otherwise requested.

Child Therapy Services and Play Therapy

Our child and play therapists engage children through connection, play, creativity, and movement. Because children most often express their inner experiences and emotions through their actions, we honor and respond to the unique and diverse ways kids communicate their strengths and vulnerabilities in each session. Research shows that our brains develop and get connected from the bottom-up, so we incorporate body movement and sensory experiences into sessions while allowing children to make a natural progression towards complex thinking, emotional awareness, and mature communication.

In child and play therapy, children can share and process their life stories, form new connections and build confidence around previous challenges that have been difficult, uncomfortable, worrisome, confusing, or chaotic. Our creatively attuned therapists respond skillfully and effectively to clarify childrens’ needs, help them express their emotions, explore strategies for working through difficulties, practice new skills, and rewire healthy brain connections in ways that feel natural, comfortable, and fun.

Each of our Registered Play Therapists has completed intensive training and supervision above and beyond their mental health licensure, in accordance with state and national credentialing requirements. Your involvement as a parent or caregiver is essential to the success of your child’s treatment. We view parents as important experts on their children, and therefore as an essential member of the team as we collaboratively create a plan to help relieve distress, build skills to help your child be more resilient, and increase the joy and connection in your family.

Teen and Young Adult Therapy Services

Adolescence and young adulthood are times of incredible neural development in the brain. So much is going on beneath the surface, and the enormous opportunities for growth and change during the teen and early adult years deserve to be highlighted. Our adolescent and young adult therapists provide a safe, affirming, non-judgmental space for clients to process difficult or distressing experiences, work with and through intense emotions, learn about what’s going on in their brains, explore tools for effective self-regulation and social connection, and develop the resilience needed to successfully launch into adulthood.

Couples and/or Family Therapy Services

Relationship challenges are common, and can even be a healthy part of growth, though few partners understand how our attachment patterns, past relationship experiences, and neural wiring play out within our romantic relationships and family dynamics. What’s exciting is that we can change our default reactions and patterns to communicate with and understand others in more productive ways, thus building relationships that foster security and connection. Our couples therapists can help you heal and rediscover joy, intimacy and safety by providing guidance and support for finding your way back to healthy, loving connection. For families experiencing divorce, loss, significant changes, or relational breakdowns, our family therapists hold and nurture the full family system to explore the roots of harmful relational ruptures and guide loving repair so that all members of the family can thrive.
