Rebecca Read, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
Rebecca Read is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist committed to creating a safe space where children can feel and experience all the emotions and feelings that come with being a child navigating the world. Rebecca received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of California, San Diego. She then went on and received a Master of Science in Marital and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Medical Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary School of Psychology. She approaches therapy through a play-based, child-directed lens which is strongly influenced by her experience with DIR/Floortime. Through play therapy, Rebecca assists children in identifying and expressing their feelings, which creates a more integrated mind/body connection, that helps increase children’s capacity for emotional regulation. She is passionate about creating a safe space in the therapy room where children can be their authentic selves to process their experiences in a way that best fits each child’s unique needs. Rebecca also believes parents and families play a vital role in a child’s life as well as in therapy. She aims to support parents and families through their child’s own growing and developing journey.
Most of Rebecca’s experience comes from working as a school-based therapist. She has worked with multiple interdisciplinary teams and truly values the importance of a team especially when it comes to a child’s mental health. Rebecca has worked with children of all ages, focusing her current work on early childhood. She has worked with children who have and experience Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety, mood disorders, family changes and challenges, and difficulties with emotional regulation.
Outside of therapy, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her family (and two cats), baking, and taking walks for iced coffee.
