Megan Watkins (she/her)
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Megan Watkins is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist committed to fostering growth and strengthening relationships among children and families. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Azusa Pacific University and went on to earn a Master of Science in Marital and Family Therapy degree with an emphasis in Medical Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary School of Psychology.
During her clinical training, Megan worked as a school-based therapist collaborating with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists and more to provide an excellent quality of care for families through a multidisciplinary approach. She has experience working with children of all ages and has a deep desire to walk alongside individuals navigating the stressors of life. Her experience includes work with various difficulties including anxiety, depression, self-harm, social challenges, behavioral and developmental needs, mental illness, traumatic stress, and others. Megan works to promote positive change within families through the utilization of the Attachment Model, which has formed her understanding of children and the challenges experienced within their relationships.
One main area of focus for Megan has been her work within the DIR/Floortime Model with children with special needs. Her understanding of child development and the brain has informed the way that she engages with children by meeting their specific needs based on their unique developmental profiles. Megan is dedicated to providing support to children who have difficulty self-regulating, and she is committed to partnering with them and their families to help develop the skills necessary to flourish in their relationships and feel successful in the world.
Megan is passionate about play therapy and creating space for children to process emotions and difficult experiences while still using their own voice. She continues to self-educate on this subject through the Child Centered Play Therapy Model with an emphasis on Interpersonal Neurobiology. This model focuses on creating resilience and empowerment for children to build confidence and find independence. It is through these methods, models and experiences that Megan is effectively able to create positive change for her clients and their families.
