Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Jen Kalusa is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who specializes in working with teens, adults, and families looking for support in their relationships, navigating traumatic experiences, self-discovery and understanding complex emotions. She currently meets with clients remotely through Zoom or phone call, and is licensed to work with clients that live in California and Nevada.
Jen believes that we are created to be in meaningful relationships with those most important to us and we are at our best when we feel known, seen, connected, and accepted. Each of us has our own story and set of experiences that contribute to our strength and resilience. There are often understandable reasons for us to feel anxious or depressed. Jen believes each person has within them what they need to have healthy relationships and emotional health, and sometimes we need a little help to get there.
Jen aims to provide a caring, respectful, safe space for each client as they learn about themselves and grow. She believes that experiencing acceptance as you are is an important part of the therapeutic experience, and considers it an honor to be invited into the story and journey of each client she meets.
Jen is trained in Emotionally-Focused Therapy for couples, families and individuals, an approach grounded in attachment theory that supports clients in understanding the relational dynamics that keep them feeling disconnected and helps them move toward experiencing secure, meaningful connection. She also takes a trauma-informed approach in her work, and is trained in EMDR, Flash technique and Havening to support individuals that are stuck because of a past trauma.
During her time as a pre-licensed therapist, Jen gained experience working with a diverse mix of individuals, adults, couples, families, and adolescents. She co-led an attachment-based parenting program. She has also supported high school and college students in various stages of life.
Jen earned her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University, her Master of Public Health specializing in Health Education and Health Promotion from Loma Linda University, and her Bachelor of Science, with a major in Neuroscience and a minor in Spanish Language, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
