Individualized academic support for children and adolescents with learning differences, guided by neuroscience and rooted in relationship.
Our Educational Care Team offers a range of educational support services for children and adolescents who are struggling in school. We hold each student’s unique constellation of learning strengths and vulnerabilities in mind as we develop individualized roadmaps of support.

Educational therapists are educators who provide individualized support to children and adults with learning differences, using their knowledge of the emotional, social, neurological, academic, and behavioral aspects of learning. Typical clients include individuals with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, specific learning disorders, autistic individuals, or students who experience executive functioning deficits or difficulties in language, visual processing, and auditory processing.
Our Educational Care Team is guided by The Center for Connection’s framework of Interpersonal Neurobiology. We hold each student’s unique constellation of learning strengths and vulnerabilities in mind as we develop individualized roadmaps of support. Since regulated, integrated brains allow for ideal access to learning, our strategy-focused services are rooted in trusting relationships while prioritizing regulation and multimodal learning opportunities.
We know that children do their best learning when they are in a calm, open, alert, and receptive state. Many children need guidance and skill building to develop their capacity before they can get the maximum benefit from intervention. Our team focuses on developing children’s self-regulation skills so that intervention will be much more effective.
Our educational therapists work alongside occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and psychotherapists under one roof. This means your child’s educational plan can be informed by multiple perspectives and adapted in real time as needs evolve.
Our educational care providers are not only specialists who teach skills like reading, writing, and math — we are also process specialists who focus on the “how” of learning. We are trained to address the whole person and have experience in education and special education, as well as additional training in child development, learning differences, remediation techniques, study skills, and organization strategies.
Our team includes different tiers of expertise. Educational Therapists provide the most intensive 1:1 support for students with the greatest and most complex needs. Educational Specialists are experienced professionals completing their certification. Educational Associates are seasoned educators in the beginning stages of their certification program.
Our team of educational therapists, specialists, and associates is dedicated to partnering with students to foster a love of learning. Meet Alex Jospe, MA and Kay de Veer, MA.
The scientific lens that informs our work is interpersonal neurobiology, an exciting field of research about the neuroscience of change and of healthy, connected relationships.
We know that connected relationships matter and play a role in how our brains and lives change, so that's where we start.
Grounded in interpersonal neurobiology, our approach reflects the latest research on how relationships shape the developing brain.

A tutor helps your child understand the material in front of them. An educational therapist works on the underlying learning skills (attention, executive functioning, memory, reading comprehension, written expression) that make learning possible in the first place. Educational therapy addresses why school is hard, not just how to get through tonight’s homework.
School-based services are typically group-focused and capped by what the district can offer. Educational therapy is one-on-one, individualized, and can go deeper into the specific cognitive processes underneath a child’s difficulties. Many families use both. They complement each other rather than competing.
Reading disabilities (including dyslexia), writing and composition difficulties, math struggles, executive functioning challenges, ADHD-related learning issues, processing differences, and difficulties stemming from undiagnosed or underserved learning disabilities. We also work with kids who are “getting by” but putting in way more effort than their peers to do it.
Elementary school through high school, and into college when helpful. For younger children, we work on foundational learning skills. For older students, we tend to focus on self-advocacy, study strategies, and the specific academic demands they’re facing.
Yes, with your permission. We can communicate with teachers, attend IEP or 504 meetings, and share strategies that work in session so they can be applied at school. Our educational therapists also work closely with our psychologists when a child has both learning and emotional support needs.
It depends on what your child is working on. Some kids need a few months of focused work on a specific skill. Others benefit from longer-term support as they move through different stages of school. We talk with families regularly about progress and whether to continue, shift, or wrap up.
