Adult Assessments

Neuropsychological, psychoeducational, and psychological evaluations for adults ages 17 and up, built around the questions you actually have.

About This Service

What Is Adult Assessments?

Adult assessments at CFC look at how your unique brain works: cognitive strengths, history, relationships, and nervous system. The process is collaborative and strengths-based, and it should give you more than a diagnostic blueprint. Testing is tailored from intake, and the report includes practical recommendations, including work or school accommodations when those are part of the question.

Understanding Adult Assessments

By the time an adult asks for an evaluation, they have often been carrying the same questions for years. Why is focus this hard? Why do relationships or work keep snagging in the same place? Is this ADHD, autism, a learning difference, the aftermath of an injury, or something the last treatment plan never quite named? You do not have to arrive with the right label. You need a process that can look at the whole picture.

Adult assessments at the Center for Connection are neuropsychological, psychoeducational, and psychological evaluations for people ages 17 and up. We work with clients in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, the San Gabriel Valley, and surrounding areas. The process is built around the questions you actually have, not a generic battery that ignores why you came in.

What makes this evaluation different

This page is the adult track. Child and teen evaluations live on our assessments hub, with specific pages for ADHD assessment, autism evaluation, learning disabilities evaluation, and psychological testing. If you are not sure which door is yours, start with the hub or the intake form. We will help you sort it.

Key Insight

A thorough evaluation should give you more than a diagnostic blueprint. Our psychologists take time to understand how your unique brain works: cognitive strengths, vulnerabilities, history, relationships, and the ways your nervous system shows up in daily life. We are strengths-based and collaborative. We also integrate nervous-system regulation and the role of relationships, because those pieces shape attention, memory, mood, and how you function at work or school.

Who may benefit

Adults come to us when they want a clearer picture of how their brain functions, or when they have not been able to reach the work, school, or relational life they are aiming for. Common reasons include questions about memory, attention, language, or executive functioning; suspected undiagnosed autism, ADHD, a learning disability, or another form of neurodivergence; a need for accommodations at work or school; treatment that has not quite landed and needs a clearer map; or a history of concussion, traumatic brain injury, stroke, or another neurological event that still affects daily life.

We also see young adults who feel stuck in the move into adulthood. Learning differences (including in bright people), mood, personality, and social difficulties can all make college, work, leaving home, or supporting yourself harder than it looks from the outside. An evaluation can help name what is underneath that “stuck” feeling instead of treating it as a character problem.

How It Works

Attention and ADHD in adulthood often look different than the childhood picture people expect. Hyperactivity may have quieted. Restlessness, impulsiveness, and difficulty staying with focus can still shape work, school, and relationships. An evaluation can clarify whether ADHD is part of the story.

What we assess

We also evaluate emotional distress, trauma, and personality patterns that keep interfering with life and relationships; cognitive changes tied to injury, illness, or aging (forgetfulness, word-finding, losing the thread of a conversation, shifts in thinking, behavior, or mood); giftedness and twice-exceptional (2e) profiles, where high ability sits alongside a learning, attention, or other disability; and autism, including presentations that were missed earlier in life. Through questionnaires, observation, and standardized measures, we aim for a thoughtful, nuanced picture, then a report with recommendations and next steps.

Employers sometimes ask us about fitness for duty: whether a current or prospective employee is a psychological and/or cognitive fit for a role. That is a distinct referral, and we will tell you if it is the right process.

How the process works

Cost can feel like a real barrier. We have financial options depending on the situation, and we would rather you ask than assume it is out of reach. If you are unsure whether an evaluation is the right next step, a consultation can help us talk through the process, sketch a plan, and point you to resources you can use right away.

What to Know

We start by identifying your specific concerns and questions during intake. Testing is tailored from there. Afterward you receive a detailed report with findings and practical recommendations, including accommodations, treatment planning, and connections into CFC care when that is useful. Because our assessors sit inside an interdisciplinary clinic, the evaluation can be informed by occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, educational therapy, and psychotherapy rather than living in a silo.

Common reasons: wondering if you’re autistic, ADHD, or have an undiagnosed learning disability after a lifetime of struggle; needing documentation for workplace or academic accommodations; preparing for graduate school or licensing exams; or just wanting to understand your own brain better after recognizing yourself in something you read.

No. Late diagnosis is valid and increasingly common. Many adults experience significant relief at finally having language for experiences that never made sense. Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, so we’re looking to help you understand yourself, not just confirm or rule out a label.

Yes. Our reports are formatted to support accommodation requests under the ADA, including for workplaces, graduate programs, licensing exams, and the GRE, MCAT, and other standardized tests. We’ll include the specific documentation required for your situation.

Typically several sessions spread over a few weeks, plus scoring, report-writing, and a feedback session. For faster-turnaround needs (like documentation for an upcoming exam), talk with us about timing at intake.

CFC is a self-pay practice. We provide detailed superbills for clients seeking out-of-network reimbursement. Sliding-scale options are available.
